Bring a Pair of New Shoes with you to Church
What does it look like to walk in new life? At Asbury we are going to live that out during Easter – giving others a chance to walk in new life, by giving them a new pair of shoes.
On Easter Sunday Jesus walks out from the tomb and into new life. We do this as a community -Putting aside our old selves and stepping out into new life. During the Easter season we will walk with Christ and invite others to join us. Beginning Easter Sunday Asbury, Trinity UMC and The Bridge (a United Methodist cooperative faith community consisting of Albright, Aldersgate, and Creighton United Methodist Churches in Phoenix, Arizona) will join together in bringing shoes to church to leave at the altar for those who need shoes in our community (for work, job interviews, etc.). We will be collecting shoes through out the Easter season and giving them to people in need.
The Justa Center (a day center for men and women 55 years of age and older who find themselves on the street) will receive 1/2 of our shoe collection and Hope for the Hopeless (an orphanage in Africa that is also now a boarding school serving and education the children of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) will receive 1/2. Together we can nurture others, reach out the needs of others, and witness to the transformation in our lives.
